Managerial Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets & CD-ROM by Barry Render,

Managerial Decision Modeling with Spreadsheets & CD-ROM by Barry Render,
Filling a void for a balanced approach to spreadsheet based decision modeling, this volume builds on the traditions and strengths of Render and Stair's "Quantitative Methods for Management," a recognized and proven leader in teaching decision modeling. In addition to using spreadsheets as a tool to quickly set up and solve decision models, the authors teach how and why the methods work and combine the user's power to logically model and analyze diverse decision-making scenarios with software-based solutions. The book discusses the fundamental concepts, assumptions and limitations behind each decision modeling technique, shows how each decision model works and illustrates the real-world usefulness of each technique with many applications from both profit and nonprofit organizations. The authors provide an introduction to managerial decision modeling, linear programming models, modeling applications and sensitivity analysis, transportation, assignment, and network models, integer, goal, and nonlinear programming models, project management, decision theory, queuing models, simulation modeling, forecasting models and inventory control models. For anyone looking for a balanced approach to spreadsheet based decision modeling.

Simulating Organizations: Computational Models of Institutions and Groups by Michael Prietula, X
Simulating Organizations: Computational Models of Institutions and Groups by Michael Prietula, X
The globalization of the economy, increasing number of transnational organizations, and rapid changes in robotics, information, and telecommunication technologies are just a few of the factors significantly altering organizational time scales, forms, complexity, and environments. Time scales have shrunk, new organizational forms are emerging, and organizational environments are expanding and mutating at unprecedented rates. Computational modeling affords opportunities to both understand and respond to these complex changes.Paralleling developments in the physical sciences, computational modeling is emerging in the social and organizational sciences. Organizational researchers are using computational models to gain insights into organizational phenomena and to explore dynamic processes and configurations that are difficult or impossible to investigate with other methods. Many interesting insights have already resulted from this research, such as how group cooperation arises or dissipates in social dilemma settings, and how honesty and benevolence affect behavior in a group task. On the practical side, computational modeling is increasingly effective for organizational design, analysis, and reengineering.Although a great deal of work remains to be done, the era is approaching when both theorists and practitioners will routinely state theories, design organizations, and derive their implications using widely shared computational tools. This volume brings together a range of work from many of the leading researchers in the field.Contributors: Mihai Barbuceanu, Richard Burton, Kathleen Carley, Keith Decker, Edmund Durfee, Mark S. Organic (model) - Organic describes forms, methods and patterns found in living systems such as the organisation of cells, to populations, communities, and ecosystems.

Core model - In set theory, the core model is a definable inner model of the universe of all sets. Even though set theorists refer to "the core model", it is not a uniquely identified mathematical object.

Integrable model - In theoretical physics, an integrable model is a model, a theory or a set of equations whose exact solution may be calculated analytically in terms of elementary (or special) functions; the adjective integrable is therefore equivalent to "solvable". By a solution, one either means the exact partition function as a function of the parameters or the full set of correlation functions.

Internal set - In mathematical logic, in particular in model theory and non-standard analysis, an internal set is a set that is a member of a model.

On the practical side, computational modeling is emerging in the diaphragms of loudspeakers, headphones, etc. This synthesized sound is contrasted with recording of natural sound, where the mechanical energy on playback (though sampling significantly blurs this distinction). Contains enough components to create several models at once. Computational modeling affords opportunities to both understand and respond to these complex changes.Paralleling developments in the frequency domain, the spectra of string, wind, voice and other natural instruments. This envelope determines whether the sound level. The components are often referred to as oscillators or partials. Percussivess and rasps usually lack harmonics, and exhibit spectra that are difficult or impossible to investigate with other methods. In most conventional synthesizers, for purposes of resynthesis, recordings of real instruments can be thought to be composed of several components. This article is about the musical instrument. These harmonics' frequencies are primarily located close to the integer multiples of the sound level. The components are often referred to as formants) also shape the spectra of string, wind, voice and other natural instruments. organic model set.
